Welcome to Debatro.
Debatro is a place where people can exchange ideas, ask questions, challenge opinions and participate in thoughtful discussions across a wide range of topics.
Our goal is to create a community where people feel comfortable expressing their views while treating one another with respect, even when opinions differ.
Healthy debate is encouraged. Personal attacks, harassment and behaviour that discourages others from participating are not.
These Community Guidelines explain the standards we expect from everyone using Debatro. By following them, you help create a welcoming environment where discussions remain constructive, informative and enjoyable for everyone.
Respect Others
Every member of the community deserves to be treated with dignity and respect.
You are welcome to challenge ideas, question opinions and engage in robust debate, but you should never attack the person behind those views.
When participating on Debatro, please:
- be polite and respectful, even when you disagree;
- focus on ideas rather than individuals;
- assume good faith unless there is clear evidence otherwise;
- accept that reasonable people may hold different opinions;
- help create discussions that others want to participate in.
Disagreement is part of healthy discussion. Respect for one another is what keeps those discussions worthwhile.
Be Constructive
We encourage conversations that add value to the community.
Whether you are asking a question, sharing an opinion or responding to another member, try to contribute something meaningful to the discussion.
Helpful contributions include:
- sharing knowledge or personal experience honestly;
- asking genuine questions;
- providing evidence or reliable sources where appropriate;
- explaining your reasoning rather than simply dismissing other viewpoints;
- remaining open to learning from others.
You do not have to agree with everyone, but you should always aim to leave the conversation better than you found it.
Healthy Debate
Debatro exists to encourage thoughtful discussion and the open exchange of ideas. We recognise that people will often hold different opinions, and we believe that respectful disagreement is an important part of healthy debate.
You are welcome to question ideas, challenge opinions and present alternative viewpoints. Discussions are often at their best when people disagree respectfully and support their views with reasoned arguments, evidence or reliable sources where appropriate.
Remember that behind every username is a real person. Debate the topic, not the individual.

- Respectful disagreement.
- Asking questions and seeking clarification.
- Supporting your opinions with facts, evidence or personal experience.
- Being open to changing your mind when presented with new information.
- Accepting that not everyone will share your views.
❌ We don’t allow:
- Personal attacks or insults.
- Name-calling or abusive language directed at other users.
- Harassment, bullying or intimidation.
- Deliberately provoking arguments simply to upset others (commonly known as trolling).
- Repeatedly disrupting discussions or preventing others from participating.
Be Honest and Authentic
Trust is one of the foundations of every successful community. We encourage users to participate honestly and to represent themselves truthfully.
You do not have to reveal your real identity, but you should not attempt to deceive other members about who you are or intentionally mislead the community.
✅ We encourage:
- Being genuine and respectful.
- Sharing your own experiences honestly.
- Correcting mistakes if you discover you’ve shared inaccurate information.
- Giving credit when using someone else’s work.
❌ We don’t allow:
- Impersonating another person or organisation.
- Creating fake accounts to mislead others.
- Using multiple accounts to manipulate discussions, votes or moderation.
- Knowingly spreading false or deceptive information intended to cause harm.
- Posting deliberately misleading or fabricated content as fact.
Respectful Behaviour
Debatro welcomes people from different backgrounds, cultures and viewpoints. Healthy communities are built on mutual respect, even when opinions differ.
You are free to express your views and challenge the opinions of others, but you must do so in a respectful and constructive manner.
Everyone should feel able to participate without fear of being harassed, threatened or personally attacked.

- Respectful conversations.
- Listening to different viewpoints.
- Being patient and courteous.
- Giving others the benefit of the doubt.
- Resolving disagreements through discussion rather than hostility.
❌ We don’t allow:
- Personal attacks or insults.
- Harassment, bullying or intimidation.
- Threats of violence or encouraging harm.
- Hate speech or content that targets people because of protected characteristics.
- Repeated attempts to provoke or upset other users.
Respect Privacy
Everyone has the right to control their personal information. Please respect the privacy of other members and think carefully before sharing information about yourself or others.
✅ We encourage:
- Respecting other people’s privacy.
- Reporting privacy concerns to our moderation team.
- Keeping sensitive personal information private.
❌ We don’t allow:
- Sharing someone else’s personal information without their permission.
- Publishing private conversations without consent where there is a reasonable expectation of privacy.
- Doxxing or encouraging others to identify or harass another person.
- Posting confidential or sensitive information that could place someone at risk.
Spam and Self-Promotion
Debatro exists for genuine discussion, not unsolicited advertising or artificial promotion.
Occasionally sharing a relevant link or mentioning your own work may be appropriate when it genuinely contributes to the conversation. However, repeated or excessive self-promotion is not acceptable.
✅ We encourage:
- Sharing useful resources that are relevant to the discussion.
- Contributing to conversations before promoting your own content.
- Being transparent if you have a connection to something you recommend.
❌ We don’t allow:
- Spam or repetitive posting.
- Posting the same content across multiple communities without a legitimate reason.
- Advertising that disrupts discussions.
- Misleading promotions or scams.
- Artificially boosting content through fake accounts or coordinated activity.
Explicit Sexual Content
Debatro is intended to encourage discussion and the exchange of ideas. To help maintain a welcoming environment for all users, we do not permit pornography or other sexually explicit content on the Platform.
This includes, but is not limited to:
- Sexually explicit images, videos, illustrations or AI-generated content;
- Pornographic material;
- Content intended primarily for sexual gratification;
- Requests for or promotion of explicit sexual content;
- Links to pornography or websites primarily intended to distribute explicit sexual material.
Content that breaches this rule may be removed without notice, and accounts that repeatedly or seriously violate this policy may be suspended or permanently banned.
Reporting Content
Every member of the community plays an important role in helping to keep Debatro welcoming, respectful and safe.
If you see content or behaviour that breaches these Community Guidelines, please use the Platform’s reporting tools or contact us directly. Community reports play an important role in helping us maintain a safe, respectful and welcoming environment.
Reports may be submitted using the reporting tools available throughout the Platform or by contacting us through our Contact Us page. Please provide as much relevant information as possible, including links to the content, usernames and any other details that may assist our investigation.
We review reports as quickly and fairly as reasonably possible. Not every report will result in action, and we will consider the context before making moderation decisions.
✅ We encourage:
- Reporting content that genuinely breaks these Community Guidelines.
- Providing accurate information when submitting a report.
- Allowing moderators time to review reports fairly.
❌ We don’t allow:
- Submitting false or malicious reports.
- Using the reporting system to harass or silence people you simply disagree with.
- Repeated abuse of the reporting system.
Moderation
Our moderators help maintain a respectful and enjoyable environment for everyone. They review reported content, investigate potential breaches of these Community Guidelines and take action where appropriate.
Moderation decisions are made as fairly and consistently as possible, taking into account the context of each situation.
Depending on the circumstances, moderation action may include:
- providing guidance or a reminder of these Community Guidelines;
- removing or restricting content;
- temporarily restricting account features;
- temporarily suspending an account;
- permanently removing an account in serious or repeated cases.
Not every breach will result in the same outcome. We consider factors such as severity, intent, previous behaviour and the potential impact on other members of the community.
Appeals
If you believe moderation action has been taken in error, you may contact us on our Contact Us page to request a review.
We welcome genuine appeals and will review them fairly. However, submitting an appeal does not guarantee that the original decision will be changed.
Please remain respectful when contacting us. Abusive or repetitive appeals may not receive a response.

Our goal isn’t to moderate every conversation.
Our goal is to build a community where moderation is rarely needed because members treat one another with respect, contribute in good faith and help create discussions that everyone can enjoy.
